OPRESCU CONSTANTIN, 84 ani
“Îmi luaţi un interviu? În ce scop?”, m-a întâmpinat Constantin, dornic să afle dacă va fi publicat acest articol în ziarul pe care tocmai îl citea. “Am ajuns aici cu picioarele. Sunt de 3 luni. Nu ştiu dacă vreau să rămân”. Mi-a spus că a avut un proces cu un nepot în întreţinerea căruia s-a dat încă de pe vremea în care-i trăia soţia. După moartea acesteia, a fost scos afară din casă de nepotul cu care nu încheiase nici un act pentru banii pe care i-a oferit în schimbul întreţinerii. Acum a reusit să câştige procesul şi spera să intre în posesia banilor.
Întreaga viaţă, Constantin a fost contabil şi a fost respectat. Se vede din comportamentul lui că încearca să-şi ascundă durerea pe care o simte pentru faptul că a ajuns să-şi petreacă bătrâneţea într-un azil. Este destul de recalcitrant. “Dacă aveam copii nu ajungeam aici – el a uitat că are colegi în azil care au ajuns aici deşi au câte unul sau mai mulţi copii…Am vândut casa şi am mers la rudele mele pe bază de încredere. Nu am făcut acte. Toată ziua citesc ziarele. Nu pot să stau într-un loc. Merg să cumpăr ziarul, mă mai plimb ca să treacă timpul. Nu ma omor eu cu munca de pe aici. Nu ştiu ce o să fac în continuare…Mai văd…”
L-am lăsat citind ziarul din care voia să afle ultimele noutăţi. Practic ţinea legătura cu mediul din care s-a desprins ca sa ajungă la “Betania”…

“You are taking an interview? What is the purpose?” Constantin greeted me, as he was very eager to find out if this article will be published in the newspaper that he was reading. “I came here on my own two feet. I’ve been here for 3 months. I don’t know if I want to stay.” He told me he had a trial with a nephew who promised to take care of him ever since his wife was alive. After her death their nephew threw him out, as he didn’t sign any papers for the money he was giving in order to be taken care of. He now won the trail and hopes to gain back him money.
His whole life Constantin was an accountant and was respected. You can see that in his behavior, as he tries to hide the pain he is feeling for the fact that he ended up living his old age in an old people’s home. He was very recalcitrant when I talked to him. “If I had any children I wouldn’t have ended up here – he forgot the fact that he has housemates that ended up here even though they have one or more children. I sold the house and went to live with my relatives based on trust. I didn’t sign any papers. I read the newspapers daily. I can’t sit still. I go and buy my paper; I go for walks so the time passes by. I am not very fond of the work that I have to do here. I don’t really know what I have to do next. I’ll see.”
I left him reading the paper from which he wanted to find out the latest news. He was keeping in touch with the environment from which he was torn in order to end up in Bethany House.
