“I’m so ill… From head to toe, I have every possible disease – you name it!” Iuliana Tampu is an outgoing, communicative lady, who looks much younger than she actually is. She begins to share with me the thoughts that trouble her.

“Today is the twenty-fifth anniversary of my husband’s passing away. I have started to think that I might have been better off if I had remarried. I was alone for many years and while I still had my strength, I was a little happier. Now I can’t really work anymore but I am grateful to God for being alive. I go to the greenhouse and take care of the plants we have there.”

All of a sudden, her thoughts take her back to the time of her youth days. She gets nostalgic as she remembers working in a restaurant: “It was very nice. When you have your strength, life is so much easier and beautiful. I used to work in a restaurant. I enjoyed cooking, talking to people, serving them.”

Now she is grateful for the place where she gets to spend her old days. The people here are her family. They share their joys and their sorrows with each other. They encourage one another when they are sad and being together makes life seem more beautiful. “It’s so good that I am here. I am thankful to God for looking after me everyday.”
