Alexandra este o fetiţă frumoasă, care aparent nu se deosebeşte cu nimic de ceilalţi copii aflaţi în Casa “Fraţii lui Onisim”. După câteva momente petrecute în compania ei, realizezi drama prin care trece această copilă. Trăieşte într-o lume diferită, în care sunetele nu pătrund…De când s-a născut, Alexandra nu a auzit sau rostit nici un sunet. Este surdo-mută… Nu a beneficiat de îngrijire şi tratament corespunzător unui copil cu nevoi speciale, nefiind învăţată să comunice. Suferinţa ei nu ne-a lăsat indiferenţi. Cu ajutorul lui Dumnezeu şi al oamenilor, care simt să întindă o mână de ajutor semenilor aflaţi în nevoi, Alexandra a fost integrată într-o şcoală pentru copii cu nevoi speciale. Mai întâi a frecventat grădiniţa cu acelaşi specific de activitate, iar din toamn lui 2012 a început clasa I. Părinţii naturali ai Alexandrei nu sunt preocupaţi deloc de soarta ei sau a frăţiorului ei, Florin, împreună cu care locuieşte la Centrul “Fraţii lui Onisim”. Şi acum, părinţii locuiesc într-un grajd, în condiţii greu de descris. Fără apă, curent, mâncare, copiii ar fi fost condamnaţi să trăiască o viaţă mizeră. Şansa lor a venit dinspre Asociaţia “Isus Speranţa României” a cărei conducere a decis înfiinţarea unui nou proiect în care să fie incluşi copii cu vârste foarte mici. La centrul “Fraţii lui Onisim”, Alexandra şi Florin au găsit tot ceea ce lipsea familiei lor naturale. O cameră specială, cu jucării şi spaţiu de joacă. Apă, aer, curent, condiţii umane. Oameni minunaţi, părinţi adoptivi, care-i învaţă să-şi împartă bucuria şi copilăria împreună cu ceilalţi micuţi adăpostiţi la „Fraţii lui Onisim”. Pe lângă confortul de care au parte în locul numit de ei ”acasă”, copiii au avut şansa să frecventeze grădiniţe particulare creştine. Aici beneficiază de activităţi educaţionale potrivite capacităţilor lor, de un mediu creştin şi de personal care-i învaţă să-şi iubească semenii şi să se integreze în societate. Pentru Alexandra am achiziționat două aparate auditive cu ajutorul cărora a început să audă. Sperăm să le putem achita.“Cei doi fraţi au evoluat foarte mult de când sunt la noi. Au fost scoși din familie, deoarece prezentau semne de neglijenţă severă, fiind înfometaţi, murdari şi cu probleme de sănătate. Florin a avut nevoie de aproape un an ca să accepte să frecventeze şi alte locuri în afara camerei în care locuia. Trauma prin care a trecut, fiind ţinut în grajd, l-a marcat profund. A avut de suferit, iar dezvoltarea sa intelectuală este mai greoaie, în comparaţie cu ceilalţi copii de vârsta lui. Copilaşii sunt bucuroşi că au o casă a lor, mai cu seamă că părinţii naturali nu i-au vizitat niciodată de când sunt la noi, nu au căutat să se intereseze de soarta lor, să le dea o eugenie sau să-i strângă în braţe…De curând familia micuţilor şi-a dat acordul ca Florin şi Alexandra să fie adoptaţi”, ne-a spus pastorul Laurenţiu Timiş, director executive al Asociaţiei ”Isus Speranţa României”.
Alexandra is just a beautiful girl, apparently in no way different from the other children from the “Onesimus Brothers’ Home.” But after only a few minutes spent in her company, one cannot help but see, beyond the appearances, the drama this little girl goes through. Her world is different from ours – it is a world in which sounds are completely absent; and it has been like this ever since she was born. Alexandra has never heard or uttered a word. She is deaf mute. For most of her life, she hadn’t received adequate treatment and care and was not taught how to communicate. When we saw her condition, we simply couldn’t just walk by. With the help of God and the support of people willing to lend a hand to those in need, Alexandra has been integrated into a school which meets the special needs of children like her. She has been enrolled in the second grade in the Fall of 2013. Alexandra’s natural parents are not at all interested in how Alexandra and her little brother, Florin, are doing. They (the parents) are still living in a stable, in conditions which are hard to describe. They have no running water, no electricity and barely any food. Leaving the children there would have meant condemning them to a life of misery and intolerable hardships. At the “Onesimus Brothers” Home, Alexandra has found everything she had been missing in her natural family. She enjoys spending time in a special play room, with lots of toys. She enjoys the fresh air, the clean water and the electricity – which are nothing but normal requirements for a decent life. She has wonderful foster parents, who teach her how to share her joys and her childhood with her new brothers and sisters. Besides the comfort they enjoy at OBH, the place they now call “home,” the children have had the opportunity to go to Christian kindergartens. They enjoy special educational activities here, which are adapted to their abilities. We have managed to get two hearing devices for Alexandra.“The two siblings have grown a lot since they have been with us. They had to be taken away from their family because they had been severely neglected: they were starved, dirty and with health problems. Florin needed almost a year to get used to go to other places, outside of the room he lives in. The trauma they have been through has affected them deeply. There are still consequences we strive to remove. His thinking is a little slow compared to that of other children of the same age. The children are happy to have a new home and family, especially since their birth parents have not visited them once since they have been with us. On the contrary, not long ago, they gave their consent for the adoption of Alexandra and Florin,” said Laurentiu Timis, the executive director of JHOR.
