Ionela and Ionut are extremely delighted that theyhave come to live at “The Onesimus Brothers’ Home.” Ionela confessed that she is most happy because now she has a mother and a father– Lucian and Ramona Igna-the “parents” of all the children from the home. The story of the two siblings is a sad one. They had the misfortune of having been born in a family burdened by many financial problems. This situation led to many arguments and figths between the parents, all of them witnessed by the children. Eventually, their father took up a job as driver and started working abroad a lot. In 2009, only a few hours after the children came to “Onesimus,” their father turned up. He had heard that the children were relocated and wanted to see them. It was then that he told us how the children were entrusted to social care. “Two and a half years ago I had to go on a long haul, since I am a professional driver. Ionela was two and a half years old and Ionut was only a few months old. He was in hospital and my wife was with him. At first I wanted to take Ionela with me, like I had done before, but then I thought it would be better for her to stay at home, in the care of my brother-in-law. I asked him to look after her for a week, while I was gone, and he promised that he would. I even gave him 200 euros, to get everything that was necessary. But do you know what he did? The next morning, he took the money and went away, leaving Ionela alone in the house. As soon as she finished whatever food she was able to find around the house, she got up to a window and started knocking until the neighbours saw her and called the police. This is how Child Protection Services took her away. They broke the door, took Ionela out and to the hospital, where they also took Ionut from his mother. Shortly after, our parental rights were terminated and we lost in court, as well.”We felt this father’s pain. He also grew up in foster care and now he has come to see his children grow up just like he did. His dream, which is shared by his wife as well, is that of getting their children back but there is no way of telling whether this will ever happen. From what we have learned, the living conditions provided by the family were far from appropriate: they didn’t have running water and electricity and there was a lot of violence in the family. So the state has many reasons not to return the children to their natural parents. We told them that God knew their love for the two little ones and saw their pain and misery, as well. Therefore, it’s no accident that they came to live at “Onesimus.” The two parents can visit their children as often as they wish and find comfort in the fact that they enjoy a new life in a Christian home, where they are loved and taken care of like never before.
